The History of the American Cancer Society

This not only provides a very informative look at the history of the American Cancer Society, but it also helps to answer the question of "where the money goes."  Rather than spout numbers, the video shows actual results of the investments made by the Society since its inception.

Thank you to SharingHope.tv for hosting the video.

Thanks to Scott Wild for putting this great site together for the Bismarck-Mandan Relay For Life.

My involvement with the Relay For Life began in June 2003 when I attended my first Relay after my husband Steve lost his battle to cancer in November 2002. He was a "healthy 53 year old male" when his 14 month battle began. As with all who hear the words "you have cancer" we felt alone, confused and afraid. The lives of our immediate and extended family and friends changed forever when Steve died.

When I attended my first Relay I was amazed at the number of people at the Simle Track, the hundreds of luminaria's with names and so many of those names I recognized and had forgotten that they too had endured the battle as we had. There was this instant bond with the hundreds of people at the track as we had all been affected by CANCER! I stayed up all night and by morning I was physically, emotionally and mentally drained. I slept a few hours when returning home and that afternoon realized that I could survive as I was not alone. There were many others who had lost their battle, but there were also many many SURVIVORS. I then decided to become more involved with the American Cancer Society and continue the fight against this dreaded disease so others who hear the words "you have cancer" will walk around the track at Relay events as 'Survivors'.

My life has been enriched by the new friendships I have made through this great organization and we all share one common goal to eliminate cancer!!
